![]() ![]() ![]() To damage Giga Metal, the player must hit the glass shell on his chest encasing the Phantom Ruby. Additionally, the player can also take damage if they touch his right arm swinging in the foreground though the arms do not swing while he is using either of his attacks. He has two attacks: dropping three small bombs which bounce towards the player and blasting a huge laser after charging for a brief period. If the player falls into the bottomless pit on the far left, they will lose a life. Giga Metal will trundle forward, chasing the player and smashing the floor behind him. After a burst of light, Metal Sonic turns into Giga Metal. The doctor will then throw Metal the Ruby as the machine begins flashing. Once the player reaches the top, Metal Sonic will land on the platform, looking up at Dr. The number of hits on Metal Sonic required to complete this phase has been reduced from four hits in the original version to three hits in the current version (via using the Spin Attack), although it takes six hits from the energy orbs alone to complete this phase. Hitting Metal Sonic this way deals half the damage compared to the original method (using the Spin Attack to rebound the Spin Dashing Silver Sonics to hit Metal Sonic). While these energy orbs harm the player on contact, they can also be used to damage Metal Sonic. Destroying the Silver Sonic robots now causes them to release four energy orbs travelling in a straight trajectory at different angles. The second phase of the boss fight (where Metal Sonic uses the gigantic Eggman-shaped generator to spawn the Silver Sonic robots) has a few changes. The opening and the chase sections (before and after the second phase) remain identical from the original version of the boss fight. The Metal Sonic boss battle received major changes with the release of the Version 1.04/RC update (which is present in the release of Sonic Mania Plus), making alterations to the second phase and changing the third phase entirely. Once Metal Sonic has been hit eight further times, he falls into the spike wall, destroying it, and the Capsule will float down from the sky, allowing the player to complete the Zone. If Metal Sonic is off-screen, he will activate his Ring Spark Field and fly ahead to launch multiple sparks at the player from the air (although he is still prone to doing this move if the player is behind him when he is about to pull off a attack). Maximum Overdrive Attack if the player is not too far away from him but still ahead. During this phase, Metal Sonic will utilize a bouncing Spin Jump, a Spin Dash attack or the V. From there, the player must outrun the spike wall and hit Metal Sonic after he attacks, which is when he is vulnerable. Metal Sonic will then fly in and do his iconic taunt before beginning to hover on the ground and fly to the right as the spike wall starts to close in. Once the player reaches the top, spiked blocks will drop in from above, creating a spike wall. Along the way, Metal Sonic will attack like he did previously until the player reaches the top of Stardust Speedway where an Eggman statue awaits. Metal Sonic will also eject from the generator and the chase will resume. Once four hits have been dealt to Metal Sonic, the generator will explode. When the Silver Sonics rev up their Spin Dash, the player must perform a Spin Attack on them to make them bounce around the room and hit Metal Sonic. Metal Sonic will also occasionally fire balls of electricity towards the player in an attempt to damage them. While the Silver Sonic can be disposed off with one hit like a normal Badnik, another one will spawn immediately after its destruction. This Silver Sonic has two different attacks: it will either attempt to attack the player with a Spin Dash, or it swipe at the player using their extendable claw arms before dashing forward using their jet boots until they hit the edge of the screen. The generator's "mouth" will then open as a Silver Sonic emerges from it. When the player reaches the arena, Metal Sonic will interface with a gigantic Eggman-shaped generator to control it, thus commencing the second phase of the fight. Maximum Overdrive Attack to attack the player from behind. Instead, the player must make it to the arena while dodging Metal Sonic, who will be flying around trying to Spin Dash the player, fly into them using his Ring Spark Field, or use the V. In the first part of the fight, Metal Sonic cannot be damaged. The music stops and Animals rush on screen with nothing happening for a few seconds until Metal Sonic suddenly appears and begins the fight by initiating a race. The battle begins after the player comes across and destroys a Metal Sonic hologram. ![]()
